Cambridge trainer Roger James is looking to add Zonza and Lady Cumquat to his Australian attack heading by last Saturday’s Gr. 1 Lindauer NZ Stakes winner Silent Achiever.
Zonza resumed with an eye-catching fourth behind Chintz in the Gr. 3 Westbury Classic at Ellerslie last week and is being considered for both Sydney and Brisbane.
“She’ll run next in the Japan Trophy at Tauranga and if she goes well she could go over to Sydney for the Emancipation Stakes,” said James, who celebrated his 1000th New Zealand win when The Tidy Express scored at Ellerslie last Saturday.
“I’m also looking at Brisbane for her. She could possibly go for races like the Hollindale Stakes and Doomben Cup.”
Zonza has already been a winner in Melbourne (Gr. 3 Labour Day Vase at Flemington last October) and a runner-up in Sydney (Listed Lord Mayor Plate) and James is thrilled with the way she has come through last week’s outing, her first start for four months.
Lady Cumquat is a possible travelling companion with Silent Achiever and Zonza to Sydney and with the latter to Brisbane.
“She could go over to Sydney for the Keith Nolan Classic (at Kembla Grange) on March 23,” said James. “Her main aim in Brisbane will be the Queensland Oaks and before that she’d run in the Rough Habit Plate.”
Lady Cumquat has won once from six starts but been placed on four occasions, including her last two appearances when second to Dresden Park at Ellerslie on February 15 and a close third to Rough Copy at Ellerslie last Saturday week.
Silent Achiever is booked to be flown to Sydney tomorrow week and will be ridden in the Gr. 1 A$500,000 Ranvet Stakes three days later by Nash Rawiller. “I saw Nash at Ellerslie last Wednesday and teed it up,” said James.
Silent Achiever will then contest the Gr. 1 A$1.5 million BMW on April 5 and the Gr. 1 A$1million Schweppes Sydney Cup a fortnight later.
