Hera To Target Foal Stakes

Hera’s win in the Tiger Prawn Maiden at New Plymouth yesterday has earned her a spot in the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Ellerslie in two weeks’ time.

The Roger James-trained O’Reilly filly, a $28,000 purchase from the 2012 Select Yearling Sale, was favourite going into the race with solid northern form and comfortably held off her rivals for one and a quarter-length win in the hands of Darryl Bradley.

This year’s 1400-metre Foal Stakes is shaping up to be a strong field and James is confident about his chances of taking the Listed race again after winning with Misstrum last year.

“It’s a race that’s always been planned for her and it will suit,” the Cambridge trainer said. “She handles the cut out of the track, so this time of year is good for her.”
