Former Roger James trained mare Prestigious Miss provided the highlight of the Horses In Training session during the New Zealand Bloodstock Mixed Sale at Karaka.
Offered by Oxford Thoroughbreds, the Group Two and Three-placed daughter of Written Tycoon was purchased by Gordon Cunningham’s Currraghmore Stud for $80,000.
“She’s a lovely, quality mare with good performance and I thought she was great value,” Cunningham said. “She’s going to visit Pierro in the spring.”
Prestigious Miss, a half-sister to the Gr. 3 Manawatu Cup winner Cassini and a granddaughter of West Australian Oaks winner True Devotion, had just 10 starts for trainer Roger James and on top of a juvenile win, finished second in the Gr. 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas and third in the Gr. 3 Gold Trail Stakes.
From the broodmare section today at Karaka, Curraghmore also purchased the winning Danehill broodmare Chickens, in foal to Pour Moi, for $90,000 from the Haunui Farm consignment. Dam of the Sydney Group Three winner Do You Think, she is closely related to VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume and to Danendri, who won the AJC Australian Oaks.
Curraghmore’s purchases capped off a highly successful sale for the Waikato farm, who for the eighth year in a row headed the vendors’ table in the weanling section. Curraghmore sold four of the 10 top priced lots including the sale-topper, the Savabeel colt purchased by Ascot Farm for $115,000.
